16 FEB - SAINT OF THE DAY [B JOSEPH ALLAMANO (1851-1926)]

 Joseph was the fourth of five children and nephew of St. John Cafasso. His father died when Joseph was three years old. He studied at the Salesian Oratory in Valdocco, 

    Italy and St. John Bosco was one of Giuseppe's spiritual directors. He entered the diocesan seminary of Turin, 

    Italy and ordained at the age of 22. He became spiritual director of the Turin seminary. He was appointed Rector of 

    the Consolata Shrine at the age of 29 and remodelled the shrine, and made it a source for spiritual renewal throughout the Diocese. 

    He founded the Consolata Missionary Priests and Brothers in 1901. The first missionaries reached Kenya in 1902. 

    In 1910, he founded the Consolata Missionary Sisters for women with a missionary vocation. Pope John Paul II in 1990 beatified him. 

    As he was dying, his lips uttered, "From Heaven I will do more for you than I did here on earth.
